Black Gardenia
Black Gardenia
London Jazz meets Americana
Black Gardenia plays a mix of Jazz, Ol’ Country, & Blues
“A relaxed approach to old school jazz with tinges of blues, country and western swing with some very fine vocals from Daphne Roubini and some of the hippest Ukulele that you can hope to hear.”
Ken Pickering ~ Artistic Director & co-founder of TD Canada Trust International Jazz Festival.
Daphne Roubini sang some jazz in London, England before coming to Vancouver. When she met Joanie Kepler at the Railway Roots Jam and then Jimmy Roy at a local musicians party – the idea combining this sound happened. Andrew Smith has played Jazz guitar for many years and Black Gardenia was formed. Then Jimmy Roy (who played with The Ray Condo Band) also became part of this different jazz sound, sometimes Western Swing, Sometimes Memphis blues, sometimes little jazz club in the 1940′s sound. Guido Heistek is the latest addition to the unique sound, playing Harp, Guitar and Ukulele.
Black Gardenia is a band with veteran musicians who have been playing here and abroad for many years. Playing a mix of Jazz standards from the 30′s, 40′s & 50′s mixed up with some Hank Williams and T-Bone Walker.
Black Gardenia plays at the Revel Room, 238 Abbott Street, Vancouver. Every Sunday 7pm-10pm to listen to Black Gardenia click the link below.
